His mother was a singer and dancer at the Cotton Club. He took his first trumpet lessons from Louis Armstrong.
Together with music, Eddie Henderson studied medicine and finished his internship as psychiatrist. He practiced his science and his art for many years.
In 70's, he played jazz-rock to disco-jazz. He was a member of Herbie Hancock’s band, which released the albums "Mwandishi", "Crossings" and "Sextant" in 1971-73, with a special approach to electric jazz fusion.
Today the great trumpeter plays acoustic jazz, in the style of Blue Note’s 60's, faithful to the influence that Miles Davis exerted on him and other trumpeters such as Clifford Brown, Booker Little and Woody Shaw.
