The legendary jazz musician comes from the historic Detroit scene of the 50's.
The street where he lived as a kid, was full of musicians and Jazz clubs. One day he found himself in a candy store, as we read on his personal site, which had a jukebox. And he saw Charlie Parker.
When he heard Tico-Tico, he was astounded and wanted to put his money and listen to this guy. He was 13 or 14 years old and he immediately knew, this was the way they were supposed to play.
Saxophonist and composer Charles McPherson went to New York in 1959, he collaborated with the great bassist and composer Charles Mingus and became a regular member of his band for many years.
Since 1972 he began working with his own band, giving his personal identity and touch, which is recorded in his large discography.
He was the saxophonist chosen by Clint Eastwood to “cover” some of Charlie Parker's solos used in the soundtrack of his great film "Bird" in 1988.
He became 80 last July and he is celebrating with a tour that brings him to our country.
